Job summary

Are you a qualified, NMC registered, Specialist Community Public Health Nurse (SCPHN) School Nurse or have a minimum of 2 years working as a Community Staff Nurse within School Nursing (or are a student SCPHN School Nurse, qualifying in the next few months)?

Main duties of the job

Job responsibilities

As a Specialist Community Public Health Nurse (SCPHN) School Nurse, the post holder will work within the School Health and Wellbeing Service (SHWS) as part of the Tower Hamlets GP Care Group integrated 0-19 service to deliver the Healthy Child Programme 5-19. The post holder will provide a comprehensive service to meet the needs of children, young people and their families, applying the principles of positive health and wellbeing and the prevention of ill health with individuals, families, schools and the wider community. The School Nurse will undertake the assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of programmes of care for individual school aged children.

Reporting to the Team Leader, the School Nurse will support the development of the service and work with colleagues to ensure the delivery of a safe and effective universal and targeted health provision for children and young people attending schools in Waltham Forest.

Essential

RGN/RCN Specialist Community Public Health Nurse School Nursing.
NMC Registrant.

Experience

Essential

High levels of clinical skills, with the ability to identify, respond to and evaluate health needs, including the delivery of public health programmes and the Healthy Child Programme.
Knowledge of current legislation and national guidance.
Understanding and working knowledge of the safeguarding process and child protection procedures, clinical governance arrangements and the ability to make decisions in these areas.
Evidence of continual professional development.

Skills and Abilities

Willingness to support management of change, development and working practice.
